Our favorite author inspired us to create an all knowledgable badge, inherent to the universe that carries a message which celebrates the power of the Helping Friendly Book.
The Icculus badge is meant to keep your car safe from The King of Prussia and all of Wilson’s evil powers.

It was Summer 2019. I was headed out on my first full Phish tour and I didn’t have a car to get around. In order to bounce from show to show, I had most of my rides lined up but there was a gap from St. Louis to Bonarroo and I needed to find a way to get from Missouri to Tennessee. After searching through my network and coming up with nothing, I went to a facebook group to see if anyone had room in their car.
A few days after posting, I got a message from someone named Baba Fats. After a quick call, we had it all set up.
Tour finally rolls around and I meet up with Baba after N2 of the St Louis Chafetz Arena show ( the night the Blues won the Stanley Cup) and we are off to Bonarroo for the next shows.
While driving through Tennessee, an instant connection was made and it was clear that Baba Fats and I where on the same tour frequency. Baba Fats kept telling me about this book he had found. It was titled ‘The Book” written by philosopher, Alan Wats and was checked out from the UVM library in the early 1980’s.
With a shot in the dark theory that this book belonged to Trey and inspired the legendary tune, his mission this tour was to hit every show of the tour and return the Book to its original owner.
After it was established that Baba Fats was one of the most legendary Phish fans I have ever met, I adjusted my plans and joined him and his awesome crew on the remainder of the tour. We hit Toronto, Ohio, Maine, Merriweather, Camden, Spac, Fenway, and Mohegan Sun and it was pretty much the greatest adventure of my life.
Fast forward a month and a half through Summer tour, and we are the legendary Alpine Valley in East Troy Wisconsin. After the Night 2 encore, Baba Fats saw his opportunity. On the rail, he hands Trey the book and finally returns it to the rightful owner.
I remember just being in awe. This dude who I had met a month before, had finally completed what he had been trying to do for years. It was like the most odd ball inspiring story I had ever taken part in. Baba Fats made it happen, and in the process, I gained this incredible ‘road dawg’ to hit every show with.
N3 rolls around and the majority of the tour is sadly coming to an end. One more show until the annual residency at Dicks. The hype for a tour closer is alive and Phish came out swinging for the fences.
Anyone who attended the 7/15/19 show knows what I am talking about. Song after song, bust out after bust out, we had all realized one thing. This Sunday night show in East Troy, Wisconsin was special.
Olivia’s Pool? Avinu Malkanu? Glide? Spock Brain? 37 MINUTE SOUL PLANET?
Just when we couldn’t expect it to get any better, the opening notes and “oooohs” started. Baba Fats did it. He got the band to play Icculus for the first time in over 5 years. This was my first time hearing the tune live and it was just special. The crowd and band felt like one joint force of energy. It was a feeling that is pretty hard to describe but something I will remember for the rest of my life.
Fast forward 3 years, Baba Fats and I have seen 65 shows together and have no plans on slowing it down. This just shows what this band and what music is capable of and I couldn’t be more grateful to be a part of this community.
I just can’t wait to hear the next time the band plays this powerful tune again.
